Dipont Education’s 2014 Conference for Expatriate Teachers

The theme of the conference was ‘Change is the Only Constant’ - which is certainly true of education globally, but is particularly resonant for China’s rapidly developing educational sector. Our first day began with a whole conference welcome address delivered by Academic Director, John Birchall, where he introduced his thoughts on the conference theme (including some light-hearted illustrations) and the agenda for the two days. Dipont’s CEO, Mr Benson Zhang, then provided an update on Dipont’s progress and proposed developments for the future – illustrating just how much the company develops year on year.

Returning staff and staff new to Dipont then divided into different sessions relevant to their situations for the remainder of the conference, with some combined seminars that were team or subject focused. The Senior Academic Team, HR Director and Academic Quality Managers all delivered valuable sessions on a range of topics in order to inform, guide and support.

What made the conference different to previous years was the quantity and range of free-choice workshops on offer. Over 30 individuals (from teachers to principals to senior managers) delivered a fascinating array of topics with themes as diverse as; ‘Why being a subject specialist is not enough’; ‘The Flipped Classroom’; ‘Awareness of cultural differences’; ‘Managing People’; ‘The TOK experience’; ‘Effective cross-curricular links’; ‘Destination Imagination’; ‘Changing a school’s ethos’ and ‘Extending the able student’ to name just a few.

A whole conference dinner in the ballroom at one of the conference hotels was enjoyed by all, complete with musical entertainment from a number of talented staff members.

The impact of change is one we’re very much aware of here and the challenge and value it can bring on both an organisational level and to individuals operating in such a dynamic educational environment. To this end, Dipont as an organisation continues to be ready to embrace the future and looks forward to the academic year ahead.
